father of the couch culture
raphaël marionneau was born in nantes, france in 1970. in the early years, he worked in various radio stations and studied graphic design. raphaël moved to hamburg in summer 1993 to work as graphic designer at peter schmidt´s design studio and started to work as graphic-designer in 1995 for the international well-known venue: the mojo club. from october 1996 to may 2003, raphaël marionneau has been the resident and man behind the french chillout club le café abstrait, once a month at the mojo club on the reeperbahn. over the years, his club - the first chillout club in hamburg - etablished itself as a legendary event and the most famous regular chillout event of germany. |

from chillout to classical music
with his very particular music style, raphaël marionneau is considered by the press like one of the most influant and innovative djs in germany since many years. creator of the music style called the french chillout, he was invited to play during the past years to many events and clubs in germany. he played in renowmed venues in switzerland, austria, denmark and has been invited to play at café del mar on ibiza in summer 2001.
in june 2001, raphaël marionneau launched at the mojo club, a event concept called le classique abstrait where he mixed classical music, film soundtracks and new classic. the event, supported by the deutsche grammophon, received a great feeback. from summer 2001 to winter 2002, raphaël presented the radio show le classique abstait bei klassik radio on the german broadcast klassik radio: a two hours show of classical mix, thursdays at 22.00 and sundays at 20.00. it was the first radio show mixed by a dj on a classical broadcast in germany. with the success of his classical event, raphaël marionneau proposes le classique abstrait, 4 times a year at the konzerthaus dortmund. since 2001, le classique abstrait is one of the most successful classical clubbing events in germany.

experiencing club concepts
raphaël made a tour in summer 2002 to present his couch culture concept in 11 german cities like cologne, berlin, hannover, ausburg, heidelberg or kiel. during the year 2002, raphaël presented a variation of his french chillout club at the luna club called abstrait in kiel.
since june 2002 raphaël marionneau and thomas kraupe present the multimedia show at the planetarium of hamburg: during 3 hours raphaël presents a musical mix from classical to eletronic music: le voyage abstrait became a great success and a highlight of the planetarium programm. since april 2004, the show is monthly.
in summer 2003, raphaël moved his summer event l'été abstrait since 3 years at the mojo club to the european largest sand sculpture festival sandworld in travemünde, near lübeck in germany. during 4 sundays of the summer, about 1.000 guests enjoy a summer night with french chillout, lighted sand sculptures, a sunset and the sea. his event is scheduled every summer from july to september.

creating an network
since december 2004, raphaël is resident dj for the broadcast n-joy and produces a radio show every sunday nights from 23.00 until 01.00 called n-joy abstrait.
with the success of his events and his first album, raphaël marionneau founded in 2002 the label abstrait music with dj nartak from the label free form. he released the compilation serie of le café abstrait. the 4 first volumes have been acclaimed as ones of the best chillout compilations collection in germany of the past years. in 2001, raphaël released in cooperation with deutsche grammophone the compilation serie le classique abstrait. he compiled the albums metropolitan classics for spiegel edition in 2002 and les ambassadeurs with bruno, the resident dj of café del mar or with biggabush for les ambassadeurs 2. since 1999, raphaël released more than 20 albums and produces 2 or 3 albums a year.
over the years, raphaël marionneau created a complete network, providing regular events (le café abstrait, le classique abstrait, le voyage abstrait), some special events and open-air event (le noël abstrait, lété abstrait) concerts (le concert abstrait), compilation series (abstrait music), radio shows (le classique abstrait bei klassik radio, n-joy abstrait) and booking agency. his office is located in neuer kamp in hamburg and composed of a team of 3 people.
in 2006, the french artist celebrate 10 years of couch culture with his club concept le café abstrait with a new album, the 5th volume of le café abstrait a dvd.
raphaël has been the founding member, music consultant and graphic design of the label jubilee records (created with nartak d. schuebel) that released newcomer artists like deep-dive-corp., the havana boys, orbient, hippihaus or bazille noir. raphaël works as art-director and graphic designer for the etrema project.
